Heat Stress: How to Keep Your Horses Cool
Summers are always a tough time for horses. And there’s no getting around it. Between the heat and humidity, the threat of a heat stroke looms over everyone, even our horses. Heat stress is a cause for major concern for our equine friends and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
With their large muscle mass, horses generate incredible amounts of heat, especially when exercising. The excess heat and humidity of the summers make it difficult for that heat to dissipate. Additionally, the heat results in excessive sweating, which can lead to dehydration with a loss of water and electrolytes.
